Profile
This body of work has grown from my curiosity of the visual language found in urban environments. Paying particular attention to old industrial buildings and objects found relating to these vicinities.
I am concerned with the concept of time and repetition in terms of people, architecture, communication and expression within large cities. I am fascinated with the idea that time and histories of the past can be felt through the merging of old and new. By recycling and re-using old buildings and objects many structures and places seem familiar and comfortable even though you do not know what these objects or places life stories are. You feel they have a strong emotional weight and they feel personal even though they do not hold any sentimental value. They communicate with each person differently as they are not stating any obvious message but their visual appeal still provokes thoughts and memories.
In my work I want to show this feeling of acknowledging the past but still looking forward at the same time. My work intends to show the grittiness and decay inherent in every city that is intrinsic to our culture, making it something to be considered and valued.
